Training Opportunities

Scoutmaster Fundamentals

Once an adult Boy Scout Leader has completed Fast Start training, the next step is basic training. Scoutmastership Fundamentals is the first formal group training a Boy Scout leader receives. This multi-session training is focused on teaching the new leader, or leader in a new position, just how easy and fun Boy Scouting can be!

While the number of sessions may vary, this training is divided into three parts.

Part 1: "The Troop Meeting" - During this part, attendees learn how to bring the promise of Scouting through the patrol method, planning, the advancement program, and more.

Part 2: "Troop Organization" - Participants learn about the PLC, troop organization, budgets, youth training, youth protection, district and council services, and more.

Part 3: "The Outdoor Program" - The training troop takes part in an overnight camping experience learning Scoutcraft skills. It is a weekend of learning by doing. This program is generally delivered in two indoor sessions and one overnight camping experience held on published dates. This training is essential for all uniformed leaders, committee members, and highly recommended for parents.

Upon completion of Youth Protection, Boys Scout Fast Start Training, and Scoutmaster Fundamentals, you are well on your way to earning the Boy Scout Leader's Training Award.
