Scout Prayers
Troop 125 is sponsored by Hickory Road Baptist Church. Scouting is a form of ministry work for many of our Scouts and Scouters. We thank God every day for many things. First and foremost, we thank God that we CAN thank God in our own way, without persecution or prosecution. Furthermore, we thank God for the Boy Scouts of America and its stance and stand on moral issues that we, of Troop 125, support and encourage.
Some Other Things to Thank God For
Family, friends, food and drink, shops, houses, pets, gardens, sun, rain, snow, rainbows, being happy, Scouts, school, music.Things we Don’t Understand
Dear Lord
There is so much suffering in the world and sometimes we don’t understand why. Please help those who are suffering, for whatever reason. Please be with those who are grieving the loss of someone close, or who are leaving friends to move away. Also those who have to leave their country because of war, and people who are victims of crime and hardship.

Help me to do well at School and get a good job.
Help me to do things I find difficult.
Help me to lead a good life and meet lots of people.
Help me to get on with my friends and family.
Help me to be safe and sensible and not do silly things.
Help me make sure I don’t waste money on things that may harm.

Happy are those who don’t listen to the wicked, who don’t go where sinners go, who don’t do what evil people do.
They love the Lord’s teachings, and they think about those teachings day and night.
They are strong, like a tree planted by a river.
But wicked people are not like that. They are like chaff that the wind blows away.
The Lord takes care of his people, but the wicked will be destroyed.I think this Psalm helps us all—but mainly teenagers. It talks of peer pressure and how we shouldn’t cave in just because other people say we should do something.
As Scouts we should stand out from the crowd as people who do what is right. We should be careful not to fall into the trap of always doing things because they make us popular—those things may not be right and they may harm ourselves or other people. It is important that we think about the consequences before acting, then we should always do what is right rather than ending up as what the Bible calls ’wicked’. This is hard though, so it is important that we help each other in our decision making, helping us develop as the best people we can be.

Dear God
Please help us to be the best people we can be by helping us to do what is right. Help us to help each other and learn from each other. Help us to think before acting and make the right decisions.

The Parable of the Lost Coin
Luke 15 v 8-10Once, a woman had ten silver coins and she lost one. People wondered what she would do. She turned on the light to see what she was doing. She swept her house and looked, she wouldn’t stop looking until she had found it. Eventually she found it. She called her friends and went and got her neighbours from next door and said: “I am so happy as I have found the coin I lost, let’s go and celebrate”.
In the same way the angels of God celebrated because a person who was a non Christian or a sinner had turned to be a Christian.
Our Promise
Dear Lord
Help us to do our best to keep our promise. Help us to do our best for you and the Queen. Also help us to help others so they too can benefit from you. Help us most of all to keep the promise we made and want to keep the promise we made. We may find it difficult at times, but help us to see the right way and stick to our promise.

Luke 14 v 11-32There was a man who split his wealth between his two sons. The youngest took his and went abroad and gambled it away on reckless living. He was then left with nothing.
He started work for someone in the city but still had nothing. He finally came to his senses and realised his father’s employees had more than he. He set off home to return to his father. He planned to work has one of his father’s employees.
He was nearly home when his father saw him in the distance. He ran to him and the son said he wanted to work for his father. But his father chose to throw a huge party for him instead.
The eldest son refused to go to the party as he was angry. The father asked him to some in but the son said: “I have been truthful to you and worked for you for years—my brother disobeyed. You give him a party but nothing to me.” The father said: “Everything I have is yours. You should celebrate your brother’s return as he was out of your life but now he is back. He was dead but now is alive.”
For Troop Nights
Dear Lord
We thank you that we can be here at Scouts tonight as a Troop. Be with those who are normally here but can’t be with us this evening. We pray that you will help people organise these things and we will have fun.
We may not always be able to come to our Troop nights, so be with us wherever we may be. Keep us safe wherever and whenever it may be. Be with us as we go home.
We ask this in your name, Amen.Thank you Lord, that we can meet together at Scouts every week. Thank you for the activities we can enjoy together and that we get to try new things.

In our lives may we try not to be selfish and to help other people who need help in our daily lives.Care for Our World

I pray that when we cook we may think of all the people who have no food, and when we are in our tents we think of all those people who do not have the warmth of a sleeping bag or shelter of canvas.
I pray that the weather will be good and when it rains and the plants grow that we do not just go back and break them. When we go on hikes and walks help us not to disturb the wildlife and ruin the nature that surrounds us.
Please teach us to do all these things.
AmenLord, thank you for the experience of camping with friends and taking part in activities outdoors. Please help us to enjoy ourselves on this camp.

A Grace a Day
When a Pack Scouter in the U.K. found his Cubs always mechanically repeated "For what we are about to receive...." before camp meals, he decided to try a different grace each meal. He prepared some cards with a short grace on each side and, at meals, placed a card on each table. The person asked to say grace picked up a card and chose the one he wanted. The Cubs were always eager to read the cards, he says.You might ask each of your Cubs to create his own two graces and prepare such a card to bring to camp. These examples are some of the graces our Scouter used to start the idea.
