District Roundtable News
Boy Scout Roundtable Commissioner - Elliot Segall
770-664-7043

To the Scout leaders of Cherokee-Pickens District,

Remember how much fun it was when you entered Scouting as an adult leader, and everybody, including the boys, knew more than you?

You need your help. If you believe in the program, you know a trained leader is vital for the Boy Scout program to fulfill the promise we made to the boys when they joined. How do you feel when you read or hear about a leader that does something just plain stupid? I do not like being painted with the same brush. How do you keep STUPID from happening? A leader needs to be trained. But, who will teach the leader that wants to be trained? You and I must do what we can. For the leader that does not see the need to be trained or the Troop leader who sees no need to train new adults leaders joining the program, there is not much to be done but wait for STUPID to happen. Then we all get embarrassed.

There are at least three areas of training needing volunteers. For the all day or overnight programs, you are only asked to there for your instruction period, but welcome for all.

*Boy Scout Leader Specific Training (BSLST)*

There has been a request for an evening series of classes. However, at this time there has only been a response by three folks from our District and one from outside willing to teach. Without a staff the program is not going to be offered. Staff for the Saturday classes is needed too.

*Roundtable staff needs you too.*

There are many places to serve and many new people to meet. Let’s share the program. You have talents, skills and knowledge that others will profit by your sharing. You do not have to invent a presentation, BSA has that all done for you. Let me know when you can help. (if you have boys working on their communications merit badge, the above could a great opportunity to teach a skill)

Thank you,
